It's the space where you learn your lessons alone, so your wisdom can speak loud , through your actions. It's not about perfection. It's about honesty. Awareness. Self-love. Being Authentic. And becoming the version of you that you felt inside. The Island Within is your peace, your clarity, your evolution-- far away from noise, judgement, or expectations.
About Me.
My name is Shakiyl, and everything I built came from experience, pain, growth, and self-awareness — not a classroom.
I am the Founder & CEO of The Island Within Publishing, and the creator of The Island Within Foundation. I built both from scratch with a mission to help people heal, understand themselves, and rise from their own storms the same way I did.
I am the author of Frozen Minds, Five phases of understanding how systems trap you. To learn yourself, you must unlearn the system that taught you who you should be. And the author of, The Healing Process, a transformational poetry-memoir based on my journey through trauma, awakening, and self-discovery. I turned my pain into purpose, and my purpose into a movement.
My credentials are my life:
I survived being shot and paralyzed in 2021, rebuilt my mind, my spirit, and my identity, and transformed everything I learned into wisdom, leadership, and a message that helps people grow.
I speak about healing, self-love, awareness, identity, energy, and transformation — not from theory, but from reality. My voice is soulful, intuitive, and rooted in experience.
The Island Within is the home of my mission:
to help others reconnect with their true self, raise their vibration, unlearn the programming of the world, and become the version of themselves they were born to be.

The Healing Process is my story, my awakening, and my transformation.
It is the journey of surviving trauma, questioning everything I was taught, waking up spiritually, and becoming the version of myself I was always meant to be.
This book takes you through Darkness, Questioning, Awareness, Understanding, and Freedom — the same five phases that shaped my life.
Every poem, reflection, and chapter is real.
Every lesson comes from experience, not theory.

It’s a mirror, a guide, and a message for anyone who is ready to heal, evolve, and find themselves again.
